How does the competition work?

This competition is in true tradition of the busker's code. It is a street style, self promoting competition where your audience vote you through to the Grand Final where you compete for prize money, fame and fortune.

How do I get to the grand final?

Easy! You need to perform at least 1 hour during scheduled Festival Cairns events and be in the top 8 highest scoring buskers on the streets of Cairns.

How does the audience vote?

To vote for your favourite busker simply text the word BUSKER followed by the busker's Name you wish to vote for to 191300.

Example: SMS "BUSKER ChaCha Sam" to 191300.

How do I get votes from my audience?

Now this is entirely up to you and your imagination but here are some suggestions:

Spruik your audience, create signage, hand out cards, incorporate a group vote into your act/performance.

How much does all this cost?

• To enter in the competition: $10.00
• To vote for a busker: 50c per SMS

How many times can the audience vote?

As many times as they like.

Where can I perform?

On any street pavement in the CBD*. Be sure to be a street-smart busker and really consider your choice of performance location and space. Fire dancers should not perform under shop awnings or near straw hat stands! Choose your performance space according to you act and be courteous to surrounding business operators.

How often can I perform?

As many times as you like for 1 hour**

Can I use an amplifier?

Yes, self powered.***

Can I put my hat out?

You betya! This is an integral part of busking.

Historically, busking is an exchange of talent and energy for cash.

When you register to compete you can choose from the dates and times available.

How do I get to perform at Festival Cairns?

When you register to compete we will schedule you into the Festival Cairns program of Events. How good is that! You don't even have to build a crowd; we will gather them for you there for you.

How will I know if I have gone through to the grand final?

Voting finishes 6 pm on Wednesday 2nd September. You will be contacted that evening by the Street Star crew who will gear you up for the finals on Friday 4th September on the Esplanade at 5pm.
