How does the competition work?

This competition is in true tradition of the busker's code.

It is a street style, self promoting competition where the audience vote the busker through to the Grand Final to compete for prize money, fame and fortune.

How do I get to the grand final?

Easy! You need to be one of the top 8 highest scoring buskers on the streets of Cairns.

How can the audience vote?

The audience can vote via SMS or online.

To SMS a vote for your favourite busker simply text the word BUSKER followed by the busker's NAME  to 191300.

Example: SMS "BUSKER JACK" to 191300.

You can vote online at this website for your favourite busker.

How do I get my audience to vote for me?

Now this is entirely up to you and your imagination but here are some suggestions:

• Create signage
• Hand out cards
• Incorporate an audience group vote into your act/performance

How much does all this cost?

• To enter the competition: $10.00
• To vote for a busker via SMS: 55c per SMS
• To vote for a busker online:  Zip

How many times can the audience vote?

Once a day online and once a day via SMS.

Where can I perform?

On any street pavement in the CBD*. Be sure to be a street-smart busker and really consider your choice of performance location and space. Fire dancers should not perform under shop awnings or near straw hat stands! Choose your performance space according to you act and be courteous to surrounding business operators.

How often can I perform?

As many times as you like up to 1 hour**

Can I use an amplifier?

Yes, self powered.***

Can I put my hat out?

You betya! This is an integral part of busking.

Historically, busking is an exchange of talent and energy for cash.

Where is the grand final held?

The Grand final will be held on Sunday 5th September at Carnival on Collins in Edge Hill.

How will I know if I have gone through to the grand final?

Voting closes 4 pm on Thursday 2nd September 2010. You will be contacted that evening by the Street Star crew who will gear you up for the finals on Sunday the 5th at Carnival on Collins.
